Stephen Weiss has spent the past 13 years in proprietary post-secondary education, creating and building organizations to leadership positions. Since August 2009, Weiss has been advising private equity firms on all aspects of investments in the education sector. From 2003 to 2009, he was the founding President of Education Management Corporation’s (NASDAQ: EDMC) Online Higher Education division. EDMC delivers fully online and hybrid programs through South University, Argosy University and The Art Institutes.
From 1998 to 2003, Mr. Weiss was the president and chief operating officer of Capella Education Company (NASDAQ:CPLA), which operates Capella University, a leading fully online post-secondary institution. During his tenure, Capella Education Company earned positions on the Inc. 500 list for fastest growing private companies for five consecutive years.
Prior to entering the education sector in 1998, Weiss held several senior-level operating positions within Fortune 500 companies. His primary focus was leading the turnaround of underperforming business units through a broader vision and strategic direction.
Weiss is on the Education Advisory Board of Bertelsmann AG and has served on the board of Twin Cities Public Television. He earned his bachelor of science from Skidmore College and an MBA from Babson College.
